On the left is Structure Registration Number 1012836: the 960-foot "CBS tower" at the transmitter farm atop Mt. Wilson, standing a mile above Los Angeles. It was built in 1986 and is now owned by American Tower. Details:
Structure Coordinates: 34-13-55.0 N 118-4-21.0 W (NAD 83)
Site Elevation: 1724.7 meters (5658 ft)
Height of Structure: 274.2 meters (900 feet)
Overall Height Above Ground: 296.4 meters (972 feet)
Overall Height Above Mean Sea Level: 2021.1 meters (6631 feet)
At the top, where the analog channel 2 antennas (the first was, as I recall, a turnstile/batwing thing, and the second was a circularly polarized thing) stood for most of the tower's history, are KDOC/56, radiating on channel 12. Below that is KCBS/2, radiating on channel 31. Mouse over for details on those and the rest.
On the right is Antenna Structure Registration 1229046, built in 2003, and now owned by American Tower, as is the big one (tallest on the mountain) a few feet away to the left here.
Details:
Structure Coordinates: 34-13-57.0 N 118-4-27.2 W (NAD 83)
Site Elevation: 1724.7 meters (5658 ft)
Height of Structure: 48.8 meters (160 feet)
Overall Height Above Ground: 74.4 meters (244 feet)
Overall Height Above Mean Sea Level: 1799.1 meters (5903 feet)
The 8-bay antenna is an Electronics Research Inc. SHPXA-8BC-HW-SP, 8sections.5wavelength spacing.
It is a shared auxiliary transmitting antenna for KBIG/104.3 (21kw), KIIS/102.7 (4kw), KOST/103.5 (10kw) and KRRL/92.3 (19kw). All of those have aux antennae elsewhere as well.
The 2-bay side mounted below that may be a 93.9 antenna fromwhen it was KZLA. It's now (in 2020) KLLI. There is no current (April 2020) license for this one.
