Yea It’s Real
On the eve of breaking 700,000 deaths to COVID in the final twilight moments of October 1st, 2021 I took this shot. The art installation, titled In America: Remember, was created by Suzanne Brennan Firstenberg. Every flag individually placed, many with names and personal tributes, is shocking and sobering. This shot only captures a portion of the over 20 acres of flags. It is now January 2nd, 2022 I just entered this image in “Years Best Shot 2021”. Not because it was my favorite or the prettiest but the most dreadfully impactful. It is now 3 months and one day since I took this shot and the death toll now stands at 824,000. This image is in the “People” category because, these are people. People who for one reason or another got caught in the jaws of a pandemic.
