In early 2020, just before COVID hit, I suddenly got bit by the vaporwave bug, and fell down the rabbit hole of artists and subgenres for a couple months.
One way or another, I was introduced to 猫シCorp.'s 'NEWS AT 11' album. I had this scene idea in my head, inspired by one of the tracks. I decided to hold off on it for another year. It just made more sense to wait until 2021. More fitting that way. Though with current events, it's probably a lot more bittersweet than it would have been.
If you've never heard of the album, I highly recommend giving it a listen. Or, if you've got a half hour to spare, I'd recommend giving the tribute video a watch, and enjoy some 90s New York Americana:
