Bardon Aggregates to Tinsley Yard gets a class 59 on the haul - 8259/270
* Broughton Lane
With Supertram unit #103 making its way from Meadowhall and heading to one of the extremities of the network at Middlewood, passing in the background on the old GC's line formation to Tinsley East Junction, 59003 comes smoothly down the grade from the Yard and passes Woodburn Junction MAS signal, W0209; with the Broughton Lane Junction sign-board graffiti'd, in a bad way here, quite a while ago. No sign now of the 'Two Towers', the Tinsley cooling towers once visible from locations such as this, the towers being demolished in August 2008 and at this time of year, very little else to see in the background. Possibly the reason for the change in loco from a 66 to a 59 being seen right here, the other being the grade out of Sheffield Midland up the Nunnery bank, I was reliably informed, :-), that the class 59 would be able to pull the proposed new longer hauls from the quarry, up these two grades, although in other respects the 59s are inferior to the 66s. Whatever the reason its good to see something different on the moves though it has to be said with this livery and the look, they aren't all that much different to the ubiquitous 'Shed'! The set rattled straight down the grade from the Yard with no issue here and looked to be working the path to time, unlike here-

where the working sat for a half an hour before moving off towards Sheffield, albeit still on time, it had just come out of the Yard 30 minutes or more early.
