Home in Gorham Maine
Soon after James and Ellen Whites marriage on August 30, 1846, Robert and Eunice Harmon purchased a farm on Fort Hill Road in Gorham. For a little over a year following their marriage, the Whites lived with their Harmon parents. Their first son, Henry Nichols White, was born there on August 26, 1847. Though Ellen’s parents shared many aspects of faith with their daughter and son-in-law, they did not at first accept the Sabbath. This produced tension during the time the two families lived together.
