The Bates family moved into “Meadow Farm” in 1793 and lived there until 1835.3In 1835 Franklin Bates, Joseph Bates younger brother, sold the home to Anne Hathaway for $450. For the next 170 years and through six generations, the home belonged to the same family.4 For many years the last couple to own the home, Hugh and Genevieve Darden graciously received tour groups. In 2005, after their passing, the Seventh-day Adventist Church purchased the home and is in the process of restoring it. The current address is 191 Main Street.
