On This Day: May 20th 2016 - Purple Glossy Starling
On this day in 2016 I spent a wonderful morning at Birds of Eden in Plettenberg Bay, South Africa. Birds of Eden is a unique two hectare dome (the world’s largest) that spans a gorge of indigenous forest. Currently it is home to over 3,500 birds from over 220 species, with the main focus on African birds.
This little beauty is a Purple Glossy Starlings (Lamprotornis purpureus) - also simply known as Purple Starlings - they are fairly common in tropical Africa, where they are considered common to abundant within their natural range.
