Kookaburra Conveyor

Feeding a hungry young Kookaburra is a full time job, just watch these adults as they feed one of two juveniles. Knowing they have a thankless task, I put out strips of sliced meat to help them.

I made this video a couple of years ago and am happy to report that the hungry juvenile in this video still visits looking for something to eat. She sits on the fence and waits patiently, and if I don't appear she announces her presence with a little chuckle.

"Where is my beautiful girl?" I ask, and she flies to me. Most days she visits two or three times, she has a small snack, I talk to her and she responds with little sounds. When she's done, she wipes her beak on her perch and flies away.

As a youngster she could fly down and perch on my shoulder without her wing touching me. I would hold food up to her and she would take it from my hand. We don't do that any more, these days we have a more mature relationship. To me, she is a most wonderful bird and I love her dearly.
