Day 64: Get away to Ikara-Flinders Ranges National Park

Just a fairly short hop from Silverton for today's get away, a visit to Ikara-Flinders Ranges National Park. Driving through the Ikara-Flinders Ranges and Outback is to discover another world. In this ancient landscape towering cliffs and deep craters border dusty red roads. We are surrounded by ancient mountain ranges, spectacular gorges and sheltered creeks. If time permits we can hike to Wilpena Pound, a huge amphitheatre, created through erosion over millions of years.

The first time I visited this National Park, it rained and I was deeply disappointed because I could see it was a beautiful place. The next time it poured rain for days, I booked into a cabin in the closest town and sat it out until the rain stopped. When it stopped raining, and with threatening clouds overhead, I spent a magical day in this semi-arid landscape and loved every minute of it.
