Day 17 - Crocodile territory, Tabloid Heaven
For many a year Darwin's Northern Territory News has had a reputation for alarming headlines relating to crocodiles. Today I took a cruise on the Adelaide River where we were treated to the spectacle of crocodiles jumping out of the river to snatch food from lines hung from the side of the vessel.
First we were assembled at a gathering point where the walls were covered in news posters from past editions of the NT News, all relating to crocodile horror stories. This one took my fancy, and my imagination. Did the man shoot his mate by accident, I wonder. Or did he shoot his mate as an act of mercy. And what of the crocodile?
Would you not shoot the crocodile before shooting your mate? Was it an accident, or was it murder? Of course there's always the possibility that the whole story was a beat up, but I'll bet it sold a lot of newspapers on a slow news day.
