Castle of gold

Explore #5 19/07/2020

Castle of gold - The truly beautiful ruins of Kilchurn Castle on Loch Awe turned seemingly 24 carat gold by the rich, intense dawn light of autumn and reflected in the mirror perfect still waters of the loch.

The slivers of golden light, sneaking through small gaps in the cloud, made all the more intense for the generally overcast conditions, contrasts the castle with its dark mountainous backdrop.

This image was from the second of two memorable dawns spent at the loch last autumn. Being greeted with neither reflections nor the hope of any light as the scene seemed shrouded with impenetrable cloud, this particular visit seemed to offer little hope or promise when I arrived lochside pre dawn. Thankfully how wrong I was, as not long after sunrise I was treated to the most remarkable display of intense light for just a brief few minutes. Long enough though to be able to catch this remarkable sight across the now still waters of the loch.

This location has been extremely kind to me over several visits, presenting near perfect conditions on numerous occasions for which I feel genuinely privileged to witness. This is such a stunning and inspirational location, especially so when conditions are as unique and superb as this. It's certainly been my castle of gold.
