Standing
Standing - A solitary view of one of the standing stones forming the Ring of Brodgar at the Heart of Neolithic Orkney.
Located on the western side of the ring, this stone is sometimes described as resembling a human face or head. The Ring of Brodgar is a potent symbol of the Neolithic influence left on the islands and now represents an icon of Orkney. Constructed circa 2500 BC, formed from 60 vertical or standing stones of which 27 remain standing to this day and is situated on an isthmus between the Lochs of Stenness and Harray, close to the Standing Stones of Stenness. The ring is the 3rd largest in the British Isles being of diameter 104 metres or 125 megalithic yards and is the most northernmost henge circle in Britain.
