Cross Spider Translucence

The tenth and last image in this long Insect Series...

Yes, yes, I know. Spiders are NOT insects! So they technically should not be a part of this series. But I'll claim artistic license, lame as that may be :) This spider is just too amazing not to post as the finale to the series!

While Spiders and Insects share the same Phylum (Arthropoda), they are in different Classes- Spiders are in the Arachnid Family, while insects are in the Insecta Family. Spiders have 8 legs, insects have 6. No spider species have wings, while many insects do have wings.

This fairly large (3-inch) Cross Spider has been hanging around my Astilbe plants for the past two weeks. I spent a couple hours one day working every angle to get some stellar images of it. And you are looking at one of them here.

I love the light from the sky that shines through its body and give the spider such clear definition and clarity. I also like that you can clearly see the white cross symbol on its body from which it gets its name. Enlarge to the max to get the most immersive view.

With the cold of autumn moving in, I probably won't be seeing many more insects and spiders, so I am very happy that I was able to capture so many of them over the late summer months.

Thank you for joining me in this series with your views, faves, and comments... It's been so enjoyable!
