Egrets at Sunrise

This is the amazing scene that greeted my brother-in-law and I as we walked through the Horicon Marsh yesterday morning. Over one hundred Great Egrets stand in one of the marsh's many channels, feasting on the plentiful small fish.

This was 20 minutes after sunrise and the sun's rays were streaming just above the cattails and onto the misty water surface. The regal silhouettes of this many Egrets bathed in gold was a rare and moving experience!
