Slush

If it were not for the small rolling waves that keep this slush ice moving up and down slowly, it would quickly freeze solid with the frigid temps we have right now.

 

As of today, Saturday, March 1st, 2014, the Great Lakes are at 85.4% ice cover according to NOAA, with Lake Ontario being the only one still with a lot of open water. I believe Lake Michigan is about 95% ice covered right now, with some river mouths still open, like ours here, the Sheboygan River.

 

What a winter it's been! And the next two week forecast calls for continued bitter temps...
