Farmer sends text message in Uganda
Uganda, Bwera, 25-11-2012,
Uganda, a farmer in a chicken coop, on his mobile phone, to find a buyer for eggs which are ready for sale. He can also contact the nearby Bwera Information centre and look in the digital database they have for current market prices and where to store produce until the market prices go up again. Farmers also come to the centre for computer training, or to find information about farming, weather information and more. This system was set up and is supported by a number of dutch organisations including the International Institute for Communication and Development (IICD), SNV and Hivos, as well as the Uganda Commodity Exchange (UCE).
