The Beam Collective welcomes all artists to submit a work of art for our online exhibition.
During this time of quarantine and isolation, we reflect on our lives, memories, thoughts of the future, and the need to continue to move forward. We invite you to submit up to 10 images of art that depict the idea of “Eros and Thanatos”.
The contrast between the death force Thanatos and the life force Eros defines life through the interplay of and conflict between these two primal drives. We were taught this by Sigmund Freud in his work “Eros & Thanatos”, where Freud introduced the drives of life and death for the first time. According to his essay, the life drive – Eros – strives to lengthen life and makes connections to objects, while the death drive – Thanatos – yearns for a return to an earlier stage of life, a tension-free and almost lifeless state, and does not strive to enter into relationships.
In “Eros & Thanatos” the works of invited artists shall use Freud’s ideas to explore the tension between life and death, illustrating Freud’s theory of the life and death drives, by using photography and mixed art.
IMPORTANT INFORMATION:
Accepted Media: Photography/Collage/Mixed Media.
Submission and participation in the exhibition is free of charge.
Submission Deadline: 24:00 April 30, 2020
An artist may submit up to 10 images
Accompany the images with the following information: Artist name, Technique, Year of creation, Site or Social Media (if exists)
Exhibition Starts: May 7, 2020
All work must be original and the artist must own the sole copyright to art.
By submitting their works, Artists allow Beam Collective to publish it at the Beam Collective Website during the online exhibition as well as on Beam Collective Social Media. The artist retains the full and sole copyright of the work.
All artists will receive notification of the Curators’ decision sent to the email address that they have provided by May 7, 2020.
