Lightning strikes New Alto during a violent summer thunderstorm. Chaco Canyon receives most of its rainfall during the late summer, sometimes called "monsoon season." Located at 6,440 feet in elevation, New Alto is a high point in the landscape. Taken in 2005 at Chaco Culture National Historic Park, New Mexico for the Traditions of the Sun Project.
