Cross marking St. Markella’s death place

This is a shot of the Cross marking the place where Saint Markella (aka Marcella, in Greek: Ἁγία Μαρκέλλα) was martyred and died on Chios Isl., Greece. Her feast day is celebrated on July 22. She is the patron Saint of Chios Island.

Saint Marcella lived during the 14th century in Volissós, Chios Island. She was decapitated by her father and it is said that her blood dyed the rocks: To this very day, during the festivities for her feast day, her blood becomes visible on these rocks and the sea boils for all the faithful who bear witness to this miracle.
