Snow in the Willamette Valley, Oregon, late afternoon.

The Willamette Valley (wil-AM-it) is a 150-mile (240 km) long valley in Oregon, in the Pacific Northwest region of the United States. The Willamette River flows the entire length of the valley, and it is surrounded by mountains on three sides – the Cascade Range to the east, the Oregon Coast Range to the west, and the Calapooya Mountains to the south.

The valley is synonymous with the cultural and political heart of Oregon, and is home to approximately 70 percent of its population.

Much of the Willamette's fertility is derived from a series of massive ice-age floods that came from Lake Missoula in Montana and scoured across Eastern Washington, sweeping its topsoil down the Columbia River Gorge.

Here in the valley we don't normally get much snow, so when it happens, it is a joy to behold. I got this shot as the sun was getting low and the colors in the clouds were amazing. Just one of many fields we have here in the valley. Everything is prettier with snow!
