iBSSR who loves comments on his images says: Wiel Arets and Alessi are responsible for our bathroom design. Arets says this of his novel design, “Alessi dOt is a collection whose design steps off from the premise that its individual pieces should not distract from the wish to purge the body of impurities. Every component of each item should be in the service of relaxation. It should be clear that the combination of all pieces in the collection proceed from the individual strength of each one, which has its own role to play though without being overbearing. Altogether, it is a well-balanced collection whose aim is to allow its users to enjoy to the full quintessential element our planet has to offer, namely water.”

iBSSR who loves comments on his images says: Alessi dOt bath with curtains and windows open by Wiel Arets. The designs of Dutch architect and designer, Wiel Arets, exude both ingenuity and pragmatism. His most important works include the Academy of Art and Architecture in Maastrict and the headquarters of the AZL pension fund in Heerlen. Wiel Arets was born in 1955 in Heerlen and studied for his diploma at Eindhoven University of Technology in 1983. In 1984 he founded the office of Wiel Arets Architect & Associates in Heerlen, which then relocated to Maastricht in 1996. He taught at various academies and universities throughout the world, including in London, Vienna and New York, and currently holds the Berlage Chair at Delft University of Technology.

iBSSR who loves comments on his images says: John Pawson is interested in architecture which offers a total vision, where nothing jars. Everything must be considered as anything which you place in a space has an impact – even something as apparently insignificant as a light switch. Design for me is about a process of refining and reducing, to reach the point of perfect clarity where form and function collide. Pawson is our standard. Realizing the BSSR House was our dream.

iBSSR who loves comments on his images says: (Ludwig) Mies van der Rohe was a German architect. Ludwig Mies van der Rohe, along with Walter Gropius and Le Corbusier, is widely regarded as one of the pioneering masters of Modern architecture. Mies, like many of his post World War I contemporaries, sought to establish a new architectural style that could represent modern times just as Classical and Gothic did for their own eras. He created an influential 20th century architectural style, stated with extreme clarity and simplicity. His mature buildings made use of modern materials such as industrial steel and plate glass to define interior spaces. He strived towards an architecture with a minimal framework of structural order balanced against the implied freedom of free-flowing open space. He called his buildings "skin and bones" architecture. He sought a rational approach that would guide the creative process of architectural design. He is often associated with the aphorisms "less is more" and "God is in the details".

iBSSR who loves comments on his images says: Stadsdeelwerf Amsterdam, 2009.

iBSSR who loves comments on his images says: Eighty years after it was built, a visit to the Rietveld Schröder House remains a fascinating experience. It was designed by Gerrit Rietveld for Truus Schröder in 1924. As Rietveld’s client she had a great influence on the result. This house is the only building ever realized on the basis of the architectural principles of De Stijl. Typical features are the use of the Stijl colours red, blue and yellow, in combination with white, grey and black, the relation between interior and exterior and the unity between the free-standing pieces of furniture and the fitted parts of the interior. According to Rietveld and Schröder one had to have an active attitude to life. For them too living in a home is a conscious act. The furnishing of the house reflects this conviction. The occupant has to perform a transaction for every activity: the bathroom is created by opening out a wall, while the sleeping areas could be screened off with sliding walls, and privacy was obtained by placing shutters in front of the windows. The house is literally a machine for living in. The house is literally a machine for living in. After the death of Truus Schröder in 1985 the house became the property of the Rietveld Schröderhuis Foundation that in turn entrusted it to the Centraal Museum to administer once it had been restored. It has been open to the public since 1987.

iBSSR who loves comments on his images says: BSSR House is designed according to the good Le Corbusier thoughts, namely 'less is more', 'doing more with less' and 'less but better'. The Villa Savoye is probably Corbusier's best known building from the 1920s, it had enormous influence on what we like. For instance we chose for our BSSR House - according Villa Savoye - to use timber (horizontal ribbon) windows rather than metal ones.
