Another experiment - I've done more modification to the original found image in this one, although paradoxically with fewer layers, by drawing directly on to the image layer , then recombining it with the original and redrawing until I was happy. I allowed the original eyes to come through at the very end.
The origianl is a tiny web thumbnail, enlarged in Paint Shop Pro and hence very pixellated - which doesn't of course matter with this sort of image.
