Rick Wakeman Keyboard Wizard - Feb 2025
Trying to do drawing to get out of a slump. I was driving home and started thinking how I'd love a collection of the people that interest me. My drawing skills are somewhat limited so I am practicing. I am never happy with the results (I'd keep working them over and over and over....) but I'm trying to do these smaller pieces, and just do it and maybe improve my face drawing a bit.
Rick is a favorite musician and composer from way back. He is most notable for being the (Best) keyboardist for the the Band Yes. He also played for Davide Bowie on Hunky Dory and Ziggy Stardust....all the piano and keyboard in those songs in Wakeman. He has played with Cat Stevens (Yusuf Islam now) and has many of his own albums.
Last fall I got to meet him after a concert - his last tour - for a brief few words.to wish him the best in retirement. The young Wakeman was a big tall skinny guy with ridiculously long hair but who was a nerd that created albums based on Jules Verne's "Journey to the Centre of the Earth" or King Arthur and all sorts of nerd stuff. I was hooked and have followed him ever since. I first saw him live in 1989 and on his last tour in Buffalo in 2024. I wish him all the best in retirement.
