Whirlpool Washer Repair

Repairing the agitator in my 1994 (!) Whirlpool clothes washer, model number LSC8244BQ0.

The problem was obvious: The upper part of the agitator assembly, i.e. the cylindrical part surrounded by a molded helix (back row, middle), should "circulate" the clothes downward during wash and rinse cycles.

Once the clothes travel downward, the vanes on the agitator base can move them back and forth through the wash water and the rinse water.

When the washer stops working, it's because the upper part of the agitator stops moving at all. WIthout it pushing the clothes downward to be agitated, the washer can't really clean or rinse the clothes.

This is a common problem with Whirlpool clothes washers, and some other brands as well.

Searching YouTube using the key words "Whirlpool washer agitator repair" will locate many videos about how to diagnose and repair this problem.

Like anything on YouTube, some of the videos are well made and informative. Other videos… not so much. Watch several different videos until you find one that makes sense to you.

WARNING: Always disconnect the power to the washer by removing its electrical plug from the wall socket BEFORE starting to work. Do not reconnect the power unit the repair and all re-assembly is complete.
