Sloth Bear
A shaggy black coat and lumbering gait conceals an athletic ability to climb trees for honey and fruits and what can be quite a turn of speed in a bear that can be lethal if confronted! We sighted this one travelling through the Chowki Rajbag Forest in Ranthambore National Park.
Once the original dancing bear, young cubs were captured and trained for public display, which is now banned. They are Listed as Vulnerable in the IUCN Red List and have legal protection: the government of India have banned their use for entertainment and international trade is banned.
