Comic postcard - The Allies' Sargents Restaurant George Street Sydney - 1915
An Egyptian restaurant-keeper at the Australian camp in Egypt erected a tea-room, which he christened "The Allies' Sargents Restaurant, George Street, Sydney". The idea was originally adopted by the owner of the small structure on the right, but a bigger man came along and developed the idea. The original restaurant-keeper, describing the situation to our correspondent, said: "I came first; fella nexa door steala my name, Him no good, him bad man". - extract from Sydney "Sunday Times", of 2nd May, 1915.
