St Margaret's Girls School contestants on It's Academic TV series - 1969
It's Academic ran from 1969 to 2005. It was a 30 minute weekly television quiz game in which teams of students from three secondary schools answered general knowledge questions from subjects such as English, mathematics, science, geography, sport, music and popular culture. The end of season finals featured the winning schools from each of the earlier rounds.
These girls won the Queensland finals, coming in first before two of the boys' schools. (results: St Margaret's 675 points, Brisbane Boys' College 610 points and Boys' Church of England Grammar School 445 points)
The girls travelled to Adelaide for the finals against the winning teams from Western Australia and South Australia. They came second.
The girls, all my year level at St Margaret's School were Janet Weatherburn, Michelle Lyons and Jane Gruchy. Michelle Lyons was also in my primary school class at Stafford State School.
