The spirit of autumn past

Last tuesday I was at the National Park "De Veluwezoom" here in Holland at sunrise. It was a beautiful foggy morning and the sun truly had to make an effort to pierce through it. Found a beautiful little lane lined with multi-colored beeches and hoped for a deer or two to step into it. But after an hour of waiting I had to admit defeat and went on. Meanwhile the sun was shining brightly, erasing the fog and melting the light glaze of frost on the heather.

The Veluwezoom offers beautiful vistas over the vast hilly heatherfields. Usually harsh sunlight is not a photographer's best friend but when I passed one of those outlooks my jaw dropped from seeing what the sun did to the beautiful autumn colors. The hills were just bursting with color.

And then.. my eye caught movement. A small herd of Red Deer Hinds was standing on the edge of one of the heather covered hills, gazing at the view ahead.

Guess I wasn't the only one in awe of the splendor of the view that morning.
