Making his mark
It was very early in the morning when I entered the Amsterdamse Waterleiding Duinen. So early that the sun wasn't up yet. But how beautiful is it to see nature awaken all around you. It was full rutting season for the Fallow Deer and you could hear the calls of the males all around.
As a photographer I simply love see-through scenery as I call it; A vista that leads the eye further in the picture. A path decorated with autumn colors like this was perfect for it. The only thing that was missing was an animal to pose in it.
So I decided to sit down and wait...
A couple of cups of coffee further and nothing had happened. But I could hear a male Deer calling at the end of the path but couldn't see it. And, like it often goes, just when I was about to give up I saw movement. I quickly sat down again and out of the slight haze at the end of the path this magnificent Fallow Deer came walking straight towards me.
I kept on photographing as he approached. My heart raced and my breath was stuck in my throat. When he, exactly at the perfect spot, stretched and scent-marked one of the branches, for one second, life was simply perfect..
