star collage (aquarius)
A long time ago, I found an old star atlas that someone had scanned on metafilter, and I thought it would be awesome to piece the pages together into a full collage of the night sky. So, I printed the pages and with an exacto knife, glue stick and a ton of free time, I pieced it all together. (Should have used photoshop..)
It was fun to make because each of the pages didn't line up exactly correctly due to differences in scale and due to the projection. In places you can see duplication of a constallation where it appeared on two pages in the atlas, and I couldn't get them to overlap exactly. I left in the atlas border around the entire piece in respect to the original format, but it is jagged and haphazard which reflects the fact that the original format (the atlas) does not fully represent the original subject (the sky).
Anyway, it looks pretty awesome and it's hanging in my living room.
