An NGO, the Conservancy Association Centre for Heritage (CACHe), found that the opening of the MTR’s West Island Line had brought fewer visitors but higher rents to the Sai Wan area. A year after Sai Ying Pun, HKU and Kennedy Town stations went into operation, around 20 percent of the shops had been emptied, shut down or changed into another business.
