This is a photo I like.
It was not until I first arrived in Japan many years ago that I saw my first canals. I found them very fascinating and spent much time watching the boats going to and from one location to another. Many were carrying materials for the reconstruction of the city.
The bridges were very old fashioned. I did many sketches of the canals. Most of those sketches, fortunately and unfortunately, I gave to owners of sake shops and bars, and many to friends.
Somewhere, if I can find them, I will post them.

A Toy Shop in Old Japan
Handcolored japanese albumen print from a tourists album of the early 20th century.
Doodle san will leave Japan
With several tons of cargo
Folks will stare, when all his ware
Is poured into Chicago
There's silk, cut velvet, old brocade
And everything thats "joto",
And ancient bronzes, newly made
For dealers in Kyoto
