ROBERT HUFFSTUTTER says: ...it is an idealistic little alley or street that captivates my imagination and lets me know that I have much traveling left to do if...there is time...

ROBERT HUFFSTUTTER says: browsing the Flickr photostreams, this photo is one that captures the essence of my youth. The Monica Hotel was one of my haunts in 1960. While I was not old enough to sip cocktails, I did so without questions about my age. It was a very happy bar and I enjoyed sitting at the bar watching the beautiful people passing by. It was air-conditioned and the longer I sat inside this bar, the more joyful my mind and imagination became. If the viewer will note the left side of this image, the old Merry Go Round on Santa Monica Pier is visible. I do not recall too much graphitti in the 60s, but I do remember many chic and sexy young people like the gal and guy passing by. It was a time when a few words of conversation could strike up an interesting transient relationship. Yes, those were the days. In the far distance, one can view the Mountains where Malibu was located on PCH at the end of the pennisular range of mountains. I never worried about riding a bike, thus the sign meant nothing at all to me, I always had transportation, transient as it was, whenever the party or parties ended for the night or morning.

ROBERT HUFFSTUTTER says: This is an excellent capture. If you will notice, much of the stimulus money is being spent building these type of concrete* curbs and curbing, thus are, in a minor manner, fundamentally transforming the nations roadways and especially the aged parking lots of distressed shopping areas. In that it provides jobs, it is a great idea. As far as practicality is concerned, the construction of hospitals where GOVERNMENT HEALTHCARE could be dispensed would be more prudent. I am not advocating GOVERNMENT HEALTHCARE, however my fear is that there might be a shortage of hospitals as time goes by, thus new federally funded (through stimulus money) would be a preparation for the hard times that some expect to arrive. As an American taxpayer, and a citizen, some of my money is being held by the government in a STIMULUS FUND. I would like to be able to monitor where the money really is located, but moreover, I would enjoy the priviledge of suggesting where this money could best be spent and view a record of how and where it is being spent at any given time.

ROBERT HUFFSTUTTER says: Your photos define the many moods of Japan. Today is the first day I have seen your photos. I am full of joy because your photos are like a trip to the Japan I loved and will always love. My first day in Japan was a sunny day in August of 1961. I was able to stay in Japan until 30 December of 1963. My two years in Japan were two of my most ten most joyful years of a lifetime. Now, almost 70, my memories seem to be more pristine than ever, remembering many of the details, many of the shadows and light I see in your most marvelous collection of photographs. Thank you for sharing your photographs. Robert L. Huffstutter
