SUPERMARKET 1960S: BOB'S UNITED SUPER KCMO
BOB LEMONS, a very generous and civic-minded gentleman, owned a small chain of supermarkets throughout the Kansas City metro area from the 1960s* until the mid 1990s. The market in this photograph was located in the 4500s block of North Oak Trafficway and served the community well. Bob Lemons was the kind of grocer who talked with his customers and knew them on a first-name basis. He had a sense of charity that was far-reaching and personal. I know that many of the bags of groceries that left the store were on Mr. Lemon's personal tab and were most likely written off as charity. I have not heard or seen Mr. Lemons in years. I would like to assume he is well and enjoying his retirement.
