Grizzly Bear Battle
I had the good fortune to visit the Khutzeymateen Grizzly Bear Reserve north of Prince Rupert on the British Columbia, Canada on a wildlife photography trip.
During that 5 day trip, we witnessed two large male Grizzly Bears (Ursus arctos horribilis) fight over female for breeding rights. It lasted for awhile with lots of blood and water droplets flying through the air and a whole lot of roaring. The dark coloured bear eventually defeated the light coloured bear which hobbled off with some serious cuts to its body.
It is something I likely will never see again but it was, how do I say it, breath-taking to witness first hand. The west coast of British Columbia is quite remote and rugged so it should safe guard creatures like these for many years to come.
