Charlestown, Cornwall
The original town and harbor, dating from the 18th century, have been well preserved and are now a tourist attraction, as well as a location for several TV shows and movies, including Poldark. The harbor is now owned by a company that has a fleet of tall ships that are used for films and a few of them were in residence.
Unlike most small harbors that empty out during low tide, this one has a gate to contain a large basin of water so that large boats can stay constantly afloat. The water level behind the gate is maintained by a diverted water source 4 miles inland.
