TE311/4D-V Spitfire Mk. LFXVIE

Painted to represent a Spitfire Mk, LFXVIE of No.74 Squadron in late 1944

A Castle Bromwich built "low back", clipped wing variant with a Packard-Merlin power plant. TOC in June 1945.

Grounded in 1954 and used as a gate-guard at RAF Tangmere. Used for ground sequences in the film Battle of Britain in which she was modified to represent a Mk.1.

Returned to "low back" configuration and used by the RAF Exhibition flight before being TOC by the BBMF in 2000 for spares recovery.

Returned to flying condition during the period 2001 to 2012, the work initially being carried out by a small team of engineers in their own time.
