Down-rigger

For my friends who don't know:

This is a downrigger setup. The fishing pole attaches to the downrigger arm. The downrigger has its own cable with a very heavy weight attatched at the end. Attatched to the weight is a big, flat, reflective metal "flasher" that helps attract fish. About 4 feet above the main weight you clip your fishing pole line to the downrigger line and then lower the weight (and your line) into the water. The weight keeps your lure at a specific depth, hopefully where the fish are. The downrigger itself has a meter on it that tells you exactly how much line you have out so it is pretty exact.

The alternative is to use what's called a Pink Lady. Its a weighted plastic wedge that hangs at an angle from your line, creating drag in the water and pulling your lure down into the water. You have to estimate how much line you let out so it is not as exact.
