Garbage

I went over to talk to my neighbour tonight. We put out rubbish bins out on Monday night for the council to pick them up on Tuesday morning. I said "Hey mate, where's ya bin?", and he said "I been visiting my mother." I said 'Nah mate, where's ya wheelie bin?" and he said "Well I really been in jail, but I didn't want to tell you that".

Ok, that's not exactly what happened, but it's probably the closest I'll ever come to experiencing this classic 'dad' joke.

We've been having a big clean out at our place, because my parents have moved into their new house and taken a lot of their stuff from here. Today Kathryn and her mum spent pretty much the whole day cleaning, sorting and organising.

And it made a lot of rubbish!

So much so, that it couldn't all fit in our blue bin. There were another two large kitchen bin bags full, plus a few little shopping bags, after our bin was overflowing as depicted. So, I planned a covert operation to place bags in bins up and down the street which weren't completely full.

As I went out to put our bin by the road, I saw our neighbour out the front of his place. He is building his house, and it's not quite finished yet, and it looked like he was getting ready to go home for the night, and was on the phone. I thought it would be perfect to borrow his bin, as I expected it would be empty (they have a big skip in the front yard. I thought about throwing the bags straight in their, but mum & dad had people fill their skip and it was pretty annoying).

While he was on the phone, I wandered up to the next house up to check their bin, but the owners were out the front watering the garden.

On the way back, our neighbour (I don't know his name, which is why I call him that...) was off the phone, and we had a little chat, about house, family, etc. It was nice to talk to him, and I'm actually looking forward to them moving in next year. He didn't even know where his bin was, but he was happy to go over and fish it out of the shed and let us fill it with our excess rubbish. And fill it we did!

I am grateful for good neighbours, on whom we can unload our excess garbage. Both in a literal and more abstract way.
