Indiana Trust Building, Indianapolis, Indiana
1908 postmarked postcard view of the Indiana Trust building in Indianapolis, Indiana. The building was located at the southeast corner of Washington Street and Virginia Avenue, but has been replaced. This view was looking east with Washington street at the lower left and Virginia Avenue at the bottom right. The businesses near the left edge of this scene were along the north side of Washington Street east of Pennsylvania Street. The tower beyond those businesses was part of the Marion County Court House in the next block east.
The 1887 Sanborn™ fire insurance map set for Indianapolis identified this structure as the Vance Block. Two stories were added later and the 1914/1915 map set identified the building as the six-story Indiana Trust Company Building. A 25-foot tower rose above the Vance Block at the northwest corner of the building, but it was later removed, probably when the two additional stories were constructed.
