Keld Head Karstland.

A rather bleak looking scene on the limestone pavement of Keld Head Scar, looking south over Lonsdale. The River Twiss winding its way down to the waterfalls of Ingleton down in the valley on the left.

These two hardy trees caught my eye and I thought they were worth capturing. It must be quite a struggle just existing up here and it had me wondering how old they were! It is amazing how they manage to survive on this harsh Karst landscape, exposed to the elements and prevailing westerly winds.

I had ended up here at the end of the shortish winters Dales day out with fellow Flickr pal John Bleakley. We scouted around this escarpment before returning to the mighty "Cheese Press Stones", to capture them in the late light.
