The Idea
A little over a week ago, I posted here the gruesome images of the whale slaughter in the town of Klaksvik in the Danish Faroe Islands. These images, so shocking, attracted a lot of attention and this post has been viewed more than 8000 times so far. This means that the answer to my question “Does anybody care?” is YES! Thank you to all who sent comments and to all who helped spread this story.
For those of you who asked yourselves “what can I do?” when you saw these images and learned that such barbarity is still happening today, I have a very simple idea.
As free citizens, we have the right to express our views and to question those who actually have it in their power to put a stop to this. I wrote a letter to the Prime Minister of the Faroe Islands asking him to help stop this. And I posted. And he will get it.
But in order for this to work, one letter is not enough. It will take many. It will take a lot. So if you really want to DO SOMETHING, join me and send a letter too. It’s very simple; you copy the text below, print it, sign it, put it in an envelope, lick it, close it, stamp it and send it! Easy!
Alternatively, you can email this text to the Prime Minister’s Office at info@tinganes.fo or the Faroe Island’s Tourism Office at info@visitfaroeislands.com
But a letter would be better :)
Two of them are already on their way. Thank you in advance to all of you who will raise this number and who will spread this idea through your families, friends and colleagues.
Here is the letter:

YOUR CITY, 7 August 2010
Dear Mr. Kaj Leo Johannesen,
I was saddened and shocked by the images of what happened last 19th of July in Klaksvik. I am sure everyone who saw these images feels the same as me. It was overwhelming to see such a brutal scene of such pointless violence. Even more, because it took place in such a breathtakingly beautiful scenery, in such a perfect landscape. It’s just very, very sad and hard to understand why things like these still happen today.
I write to you in the hope that you can help. Not to judge you or your country’s traditions, just to ask you to put a stop to this if you can and end the stigma that the Faroe Islands have now earned in the eyes of the world. I am sure you will find this will bring your country many advantages. More advantages than killing a pod of whales, certainly.
I am sure there are more good things than bad in the Faroe Islands and I look forward to visiting your beautiful country when this ritual stops.
Yours truly
