Aquazoo: Desert Rose
"Aquazoo - Löbbecke Museum" is a municipal institute in Düsseldorf, which simultaneously fulfils the functions of a zoo and a natural history museum. It was opened in 1987 in the city's North Park under the name "Löbbecke-Museum & Aquazoo". On an area of 6800 m², around 560 animal species are exhibited in aquariums, terrariums and a tropical hall in 25 themed rooms (as of October 2017). There are also other natural history exhibits in the museum. With around 500,000 visitors per year, the Aquazoo has been by far the most popular cultural institute in Düsseldorf for many years.
On November 4, 2013 the house was closed to begin renovation work. The reopening was originally planned for May 2015, but was postponed to 22 September 2017. Rehabilitation costs rose by more than 40 percent to around € 19 million.
