Shadows and Light

This is the cover photo of a book I have been working on with the help of three wonderful Flickr friends. Mari Ward, who got me an excellent deal with the printers, Alistair Hamill, who designed the front cover using one of my images and is currently working on the layout of the rest of the book, and Rodney Harrison who has taught me all I know about photography.

It will be a book of my images that reflect how I feel about the cancer I was diagnosed with just nine months ago. Since the life-saving operation I had in June, when I had only days left to live, I have had six extra precious months and have made the very most of them with fundraising projects for cancer -related causes, and now this book which will hopefully give an insight into getting on with life with cancer. I would like it to provide some comfort, and perhaps bring a smile, to those in a similar situations to me. For example, the photo of my bleary-eyed donkey that made Explore is exactly how I feel after getting chemotherapy. You see, there is still humour to be found in a grave situation, and there is always hope, as the light on these waves came to symbolise when I was first told my illness was terminal. A recent scan showed that the prognosis for me is once again not good but that won't stop me enjoying life to the full.

I hope you all enjoy the festive season and have a happy and healthy 2016.
