Resistance Tile, Winter 1944 - 1945, Netherlands - 486

Resistance tile, Winter 1944 - 1945, the Netherlands.

The honour to the Dutch women tile, winter 1944-1945, showing a woman working hard in the kitchen; cooking, washing, chopping firewood. The text below reads “Eer aan Hollands vrouw voor volharding moed en trouw” which translates as ‘Honour to Holland’s women for determination, courage and faith’. This tile refers to the very harsh winter of 1944 of which you may have heard stories of the Dutch eating tulip bulbs. In fact if they did eat bulbs it was daffodil bulbs as they are edible (some!).
