My knight in shining armour
This is a little pewter replica of one of the famous Lewis chessmen. In the background is the back of another piece, this time made of resin and much more detailed. Also much larger! I've been fascinated by this chess set ever since I knew of its existence and hope I will get to see it one day. The originals were carved from walrus ivory in the 12th Century and they were found on the Isle of Lewis in the Outer Hebrides in 1831.
For this week's Macro Mondays group theme, Board game pieces. The whole scene is roughly 2½" across. I felt he needed space to ride into. :)
