Rome '24 - The Pantheon, Piazza do Rotonda

The original Pantheon, temple of all the gods, was built by Marcus Agrippa at the start of the first millennium. After it was burned down, the Emperor Hadrian rebuilt it, dedicating it in AD126. It then became a Christian church, St Mary and The Martyrs, in AD609.

The inscription on the pediment reads 'Marcus Agrippa, son of Lucuis, three times consul, made me'.

The original concrete dome remains the largest unsupported concrete dome on the world - not bad for near 2000 years of age and a magnificent tribute to Roman engineering skills.
