The sad remains of British Airways Trident 2E G-AVFA - seen at London Heathrow
Trident Swansong 1980 - 1985
Originally delivered to BEA in December 1969, after being kept back with Hawker Siddeley for tests, this is one of the Trident 2Es that BEA and later British Airways operated so successfully in the 1970s. 'FA' is seen in a dilapidated state, dumped in the old BEA maintenance area at London Heathrow - photographed through the chain-link fence. The aircraft had been partially dismantled and was awaiting final cutting up. Just to the right is the remains of Trident 3B G-AWZB which was being disposed of at the same time. BA Lockheed TriStar-200 G-BHBR is parked up behind the Tridents. These were the days when you could drive round the whole of the Heathrow inner perimeter road at will, and park up in various locations to grab photos :)
G-AVFA c/n 2140 - Trident 2E - delivered new to BEA in December 1969, and incorporated into the British Airways fleet five years later. The aircraft flew with BA for another nine years, before being withdrawn in March 1983 - being finally broken up on site at London Heathrow in January 1984.

Taken with a Soviet made Zenith TTL camera and standard lens. Scanned from the original negative. A somewhat grainy image taken when I was experimenting with some high-speed monochrome print film in the mid 1980s!
