N508PA Pan Am Lockheed L-1011-500 TriStar lining up for take off at London Gatwick
Gatwick Memories
Pan Am supplemented their all Boeing fleet in the early 1980s with a small fleet of long-range short bodied TriStar 500s. They were used regularly into Gatwick for a few years. One of the fleet, N508PA named "Clipper Bald Eagle", is seen here at Gatwick on flight PA091 when brand new - only delivered new to the airline on 27th June 1980.
N508PA c/n 1186 L-1011-500 - delivered new to Pan Am in June 1980, the aircraft operated with the airline for just four years before being sold to the RAF for conversion by Marshall`s of Cambridge to a K2 tanker. The aircraft flew with the RAF as ZE704 for another 30 years, only being withdrawn from service in 2014, and ending up stored at RAF Bruntingthorpe.
Apparently, the last commercial TriStar flight was operated on January 7, 2019. More info on the Aircraft design here: en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Lockheed_L-1011_TriStar
Taken with a Soviet made Zenith EM camera and 300mm lens.
