Moving Forward Or Backward in Democracy? - Woodward N15939e

A candid shot taken in 2014.

Wish you a great weekend!

Chinese New Year is coming and I wish all my Flickr friends a happy and prosperous Year of Monkey!

There are so many arguments and discussions about democracy and election of Chief Executive in Hong Kong ever since Occupy Central movement came into sight.

Some argued that there has been no election of governor in the colonial rule in Hong Kong before 1997. The election now suggested by China is a step forward already. The question is: Is the voting on screened candidates a real democracy?

I believe if Hong Kong were under British rule today and similar kind of election framework being proposed, the Hong Kong people will still protest on it and will not accept it too.

We need a real step forward and not a step backward like what was happening in the colonial rule i.e. the leader in government was appointed and sent by another ruling authority.

This is not moving forward or backward in my picture. This is just Woodward's spiral stairs 4 October seen on the day of Doors Open Vancouver event.

Happy Sunday!

I have my best wishes for Occupy Central movement on the 7th day.
